Uninsured/underinsured motorist, when people ask about this they think it only covers them if they are in a wreck and the other person has no insurance. In Georgia according to published sources only about 12% of drivers have no insurance, however most only carry the state minimum of 25,000(person)/50,000(per accident). Statistically, you are much more likely to get into an accident with someone with minimum limits than someone with no insurance. What these minimum limits mean is no matter how bad the accident may be, or how badly you are hurt, or how much your car is worth the at-fault driver’s insurance company will only have to pay out those minimum limits. If you have medical bills of $75,000 then where is the rest of that money going to come from? It is going to come from you if you’re not covered properly! That puts you paying out at least $50,000 for those medical bills if you are not properly covered! This is why it is so important to carry as much uninsured/underinsured coverage as you can comfortably afford!
